Proudly SOUTH AFRICAN!

by

The South African people rose to the occasion and made the Fifa World Cup a success of note!

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has given South Africa fulsome praise for successfully hosting the World Cup, which he described as one of the greatest events they had staged. Blatter gave the country a massive nine out of 10 pass mark. “After the Confederations Cup, I gave South Africa a 7,5 out of 10. After a successful final draw and this tournament I’m giving you nine out of 10, which in a university would earn the highest honours,” he said. “(It is ) a big compliment to South Africa, the people of South Africa, the government of South Africa for delivering on all the 17 guarantees of the World Cup.

The negative reporting leading up to this Soccer spectacle did nothing but unite the people of the beautiful RAINBOW NATION.

This is our time – KENAKO!

I am so proud to be a South African.

Livingstone Basic School

by

New classrooms for Livingstone Basic School.

On Friday 14 May 2010, Vladimiro Farina from Graffiti Open World Onlus in Rome and Quinton Conroy from Africa’s Child Safaris visited the Livingstone Basic School in Livingstone, Zambia. A meeting was held with the Head Mistress and teachers to make arrangements for the building of a three classroom building that will go a long way towards creating a better learning environment for the children.

The Head Mistress of the school Ms Grace Munanyanga has been very successful in raising sufficient funds to purchase 1500 cement bricks and building sand that will be sufficient to raise the new building to window level.

Graffiti Open World Onlus will provide the necessary funding to hire a local contractor and to buy the necessary building materials to complete the classrooms as quickly as possible.

Okay, all the best, Quinton. I still have great memories from our trip together and I would love to take another trip in Africa – with the condition that you are doing the driving and managing. You are a star of Africa.

Overnight Wildlife Safari – 31 March – 01 April

by

An excited group of students currently participating in the Semester At Sea on the ocean liner Explorer enjoyed a fantastic Overnight Wildlife Safari with Africa’s Child Safaris during their brief visit to Cape Town over the Easter Weekend.

Jenny Feuer took the initiative and made all the arrangements for her friends to join her on this fantastic safari following the very positive reports she received from her friend Max Slutsky who participated in a similar safari when he visited Cape Town a year ago as part of Semester At Sea.

It was a truly amazing and thoroughly enjoyable journey through the beautiful Cape Winelands to the Inverdoorn Reserve situated in the arid region known as the Great Karoo. The students asked many questions regarding the apartheid era and learnt at first hand from Quinton, a “product” of that that time, what the actual conditions were during that period, but more importantly, we discussed at length the wonderful future that lies ahead for the Rainbow Nation of South Africa.

The wildlife viewing at Inverdoorn was fantastic and the undisputed highlight of the safari was when the rangers brought the two Cheetah cubs to the breakfast area after the early morning game drive.

From the arid Great Karoo we travelled to Fairview Wine Estate to savour some of the great wine and cheese varieties that they produce at the estate. A thoroughly enjoyable experience that was followed up by another highlight – a visit to the exact spot where the father of our nation, Mr Nelson Mandela took his first steps in freedom.

Happy clients

by

Beste Quinton,

Hartelijke groeten,

Gerrit en Mijnie den Heijer
